Learn how to paint with words and bring your writing to life with concrete details.  Wow your friends and impress your writing instructors.  We will consider examples from songs, poems, short stories, and creative nonfiction essays.

Learn the technique and etiquette of making a good impression in professional modes of writing, such as email, cover letters, and resumes.

6:00 PM - 7:00 PM New Music Ensemble Concert
New Music Ensemble Concert

Collin's New Music Ensemble is a group of eight to ten students creating new and original music compositions with new media. Each ensemble member chooses their own creative medium such as video, computer music, electro-acoustic music, interacive installations, bent electronics, multi-channel sound diffusion (four to twenty-four loudspeakers) and traditional acoustic instruments.

As an example, in Spring 2007 two students, Eric Wafford and Jeff Winton, collaborated to build a Reaktable.

8:00 AM - 8:00 PM Honors Institute Study Party
The Study Party gives students the opportunity to remain on campus to study. It is open all day, so students can come and go as they please throughout the day and night. Various Conference Center rooms will be set up for quiet studying, while others will be set up for tutoring. Specifically, we will have a math room (with math tutors), a social science room (with professors available), a writing center with writing tutors, and a yoga/meditation room (with classes on each offered throughout the day). Healthy snacks and beverages will be provided (free) all day as well. Although the event is hosted by the Honors Institute, everyone, both Honors and non-Honors students alike are invited.

The Jazz Lab Band recently performed at the Burlington/Discover Jazz Festival in Vermont and will play several well-known jazz numbers and new pieces.

The jazz combo groups will feature smaller ensembles and a wide variety of songs. Jaztet One will play pieces from Michael Brecker and Pat Metheny and the Jazz Combo Too will feature standards like “Night and Day” and “Orange Colored Sky."
